Metropolitan Lofts
Downtown, Los Angeles

The Metropolitan Building has a significant presence on the corner of Broadway and Fifth. Built in 1913, the Metropolitan has large Chicago-style windows that offer impressive views of the street scenes below. Though the building has undergone a number of interior and storefront alterations, the integrity of the original architectural character has remained intact.
RKA was hired by the owner to transform the historic building into live/work loft apartments on floors three through nine with three penthouse units on the tenth floor. The ground floor will remain a department store with storage in the basement and mezzanine. The historical integrity of the building will be restored where possible, and the ground floor storefront upgraded to reflect a modern aesthetic.
