The Los Angeles Times building, designed by Gordon B. Kaufmann and completed in 1935, became a symbol of the newspaper’s influence. A 14-story modernist tower was added in 1973 by A.C. Martin & Associates to accommodate the Times' growth. Designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 1976, the building is now undergoing a transformation by RPa into a mixed-use development, including seismic retrofitting and renovations to the Times North, Plant, and South buildings. The project will also introduce new uses at the ground level, with potential spaces for restaurants and a grocery market.
