The design concept was to pay homage to Harlan G. Palmers focused efforts, commitments and use of the newspaper at that time. The importance of unfettered raw unbiased news and information is even more important than ever today – the truth sets you free. We wanted to pay respect to the past and current distribution of news/information by taking design cues from the printing press, its history and its evolution.
Approximately 7,200 SF the ground level restaurant was designed by MBDS to reflect “modern Italian glamour”. The restaurant consists of multiple bars, a large wine storage room, and expansive showcase kitchen opened to the main restaurant space.
The second level event space is a large 6,500 SF area that was designed to host events of any size and/or kind. The interior columns were removed and replaced with robust steel girders that span over 50’-0”. The beautiful north facing sawtooth skylights have been restored with new steel window frames and insulated glazing to help mitigate sound transmission while still allowing for natural daylight to enter the space. A banquet-style kitchen takes up the NW corner of the second level that will serve the space during events.
